“If our dreams should fall to earth and shatter into a million tiny pieces, don’t be afraid to pick one of those pieces up and begin again.”
Good morning, family! You are beautiful, capable, loved!
I know that, for some of us, it feels like someone picked up our fragile lives, dropped them onto a concrete pad, and shattered them into a million unrecognizable pieces this year. Many of us are left staring sadly at the fragments of what was and what might have been, wondering how we will ever move forward. We are beyond broken.
The questions are many, and the answers have been few. Far, far too few. I know, friends, and I am sorry. So, so sorry. It’s been incredibly difficult. I want you to know that I SEE you, and you are not alone.
But I want to encourage you today to be brave and keep moving forward. I know the broken pieces of our dreams piled around us are daunting and scary to us, but they are not daunting or scary to God! You see, he makes beautiful things out of the dust.
The fragments of our lives may look like oh-so-much useless garbage to our untrained eyes, but in the hands of the right artist, they are a medium from which something truly extraordinary and breathtaking can be created – a mosaic of profound beauty and indeterminable value!

Lucky for us, there happens to be an artist out there with omnipotent skill!
Sometimes we have to be shattered to be whole. Sometimes we have to have our cloudy, preconceived notions of self, safety, finances, and prosperity broken to see the value of life with greater clarity. Sometimes we have to let go of the temporary things we have been grasping with white-knuckled tenacity so that our hands are free to reach for the everlasting things that really matter.

I know it has been a hard season. I’ve lived every heart-wrenching moment right here with you. I have watched everything I thought I knew shattered upon the rocky shores of a pandemic. I know first-hand the pain, frustration, uncertainty, fear that have been lobbed at our glass houses! But I hope that I have demonstrated and continue to emulate a life of faith and perseverance in a season of trial and great hardship, and I hope in some way that has given you courage to do the same. Seasons change, my friends! Blue skies are on the horizon.
Here’s what I know: I am no artist. My pile of broken shards of expectation, dreams, and preconceived notion sits ugly and daunting at my feet. By myself, I am utterly helpless to put back together anything even remotely viable from the mess. The thought of even trying is depressing and overwhelming, isn’t it? That’s why I have handed it all over to the great artist who makes beauty out of ashes – priceless art out of worthless garbage! And I cannot WAIT to see the fantastical mosaic that he creates from my brokenness.
I know you have felt discouraged, but don’t be. This year is not the end of our lives; it is the beginning of our opus magnum! You see, you are not a pile of uselessly broken pieces; you are a mosaic masterpiece about to be revealed for all the world to see! We just have to be willing to hand over the pieces to the artiste extraordinaire!
You, my friend, are an magnificent work of art in the making. I cannot wait to see the finished product!
I love you, aviation family! Be brave, be strong, be kind.
Beautifully, brokenly yours,
Angelia
